What is Messiah? The title Messiah came from the Hebrew word, "Mashiach". The Greek and Latin word for Messiah is "Cristos". Its equivalent word in English is "Christ" which means the Savior of the world. In the old testament, God told how He would send the messiah to rescue His people, to make everything right, and to destroy evil.
The Anointed King
As King, The Messiah's kingdom is eternal.
"Listen! You will become pregnant and have a baby boy. You will name him Jesus. 32 He will be great. People will call him the Son of the Most High God, and the Lord God will make him king like his ancestor David. 33 He will rule over the people of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.”
As King, The Messiah's kingdom is heavenly.
a. Jesus' Kingdom is not of this world.
"Jesus said, “My kingdom does not belong to this world. If it did, my servants would fight so that I would not be handed over to the Jewish leaders. No, my kingdom is not an earthly one.”
b. Jesus' kingdom is not an earthly political reign
"She will give birth to a son. You will name him Jesus. Give him that name because he will save his people from their sins.”
The name Jesus means "The LORD saves.
c. Jesus' kingdom cannot be detected by visible signs.
"Some of the Pharisees asked Jesus, “When will God’s kingdom come?”
Jesus answered, “God’s kingdom is coming, but not in a way that you can see it."
We've learned that Jesus is our Anointed King.
